These Southern rifles were typically coming out of western Virginia and North Carolina as well as eastern Tennessee and Kentucky. Commonly made with iron hardware, few inlays and almost never any carving. Stocks were often walnut but maple, cherry and few other hardwoods were used. I've even seen one stocked in heart pine. These guns were made for work, not looks.
This rifle is stocked in fancy curly maple with hand forged iron hardware. It has a 40" barrel in .36 caliber. The only decoration is the silver cheek inlay.
