Virginia Mountain Rifle Kit

This is a very nice kit from parts laying around the shop. All necessary parts to assemble it are included.

The wood is a nice piece of walnut cut at a mill near Smithfield, VA. I have hand shaped it to my late Virginia style. There is some beautiful figure in it and a medium reddish brown stain would bring it out better. It will accommodate up to a 15" pull.

The barrel is a Green Mountain 13/16" x 42" in .32 caliber. The lollypop tang is fitted. If you are uncomfortable inletting it, cut the rear portion off to convert it to a standard style.

The lock is an L&R late American style with a roller on the frizzen toe. Very nice and fast lock.

The buttplate and guard are cast from a Va. Manufactory first model rifle dated 1806. All of these military rifles were contracted to gunmakers mostly in the Shenandoah Valley. The rest of the military small arms and even cannon were produced near Fredericksburg, VA.

Type G Trade gun kits with Second Stock

This is a standard Type G or Carolina kit. The stock included in this kit has a knot that showed up during shaping.

It is very minor but the surrounding wood is a bit darker. If you plan to paint your stock as was typical, this is a good candidate.

This kit comes with all the parts to complete EXCEPT the lock. It is inlet for an Early English lock (#0357) available from Log Cabin Shop.

No other lock will fit. The barrel is a 20 gauge 47" by Rice.

The price has been discounted for the flaw in the wood and the cost of the lock.
